Stellenbosch University offers a new M.Phil. Programme in the field of science and technology studies, with a focus on public science engagement. This field of study is ideal for people working at the interface between science and society, in places such as university research or communication offices, science councils, science centres and NGOs, who are interested in strengthening their theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to science-society interactions. It also provides a perfect stepping stone to doctoral studies in science communication.
The modular structure of the course makes it possible for participants to structure it as part-time study over a period of one or two years, without the need to be in Stellenbosch permanently. Applicants need to be in possession of an honours degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification at NQF level 8. More information is available at http://bit.ly/2v73k4h (click on 3) or contact Bernia Drake on or +27 (0)21 808 3394. The closing dates are 31 August for non-South African citizens and 30 September 2017 for SA citizens. Apply online at http://bit.ly/1R2hlnw
This Master’s programme is offered under the auspices of the DST-NRF SARChI research chair in science communication at Stellenbosch University, with Professor Peter Weingart as the chair holder.
Students who are particularly interested in science journalism should contact the Journalism Department at Stellenbosch University.
